Evaluation on Feedback

Evaluation on Feedback

The powerpoint pitch I feel went well as reading the feedback I gathered I got the message of the interview through and I presented myself in a clear understandable way. I had enough detail about what I want to do within the interview and gave enough information on how, where and why I was going to film it.

The feedback showed that the interview that I will film is unique and interesting due to the topic of interviewing a band and also the genre of music that the band are. The choice of me interviewing a sludge rock/stoner metal band has been great as people seem to be interested in this subject matter and will be entertained in watching. another part of feed back I got was about the place in filming and how by filming in a studio will be different from any other interview which is in an empty room with a few topical posters around.

Looking at the feedback I have seen that the best interview question was about how Vendorbelly formed. The reasons given for this was that it gave an insight into the band and tells a story of how thy got together. By knowing this I will look at how I could improve the other questions by adding more detail to them to gain a better insight into the band.

The worst question that I was told I had was mainly the question about is it all just sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll and the question about what is the best venue you have performed in. This I can understand and I accept their reasoning as the answers will be to short or due to the fact that the band are not a large band and may have not played in many venues. To avoid the questions being too short I will research how much the band have performed at concerts and I will also propose the sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll question at the end. The reason why I would ask this at the end as I feel and some of the feedback still feel that it is a good enough question and I will use it as a summery quick question to end the interview on.

The main thing that was said that I need to improve on is giving more detail about how I'm going to film, for example if I am going to be using any specific lighting and what camera shots I am going to use. To solve this I will create a shot list to allow me know what I am filming and how the filming will be achieved. I will also create an equipment list and location recce so I know what I will be using and where specifically I will shoot the interview.

Questions for Vendorbelly

Questions:

How did forming Vendorbelly come around and form?

On what terms did the band Jettatura end?

You have your EP out now, Waving Lines, how was the process in recording it and was there any specialized or specific equipment used in the studio? (Cello/double bass)

Releasing the EP, what methods have you used to promote the music and how do you feel that it will affect your audience and the music itself? (Donations on the website/download)

The genre of your music, sludge rock/stoner metal, how did that come about? Have you guy's always liked this music and what were the bands you've listened to and have influences from?

What was the best venue you have performed in and what made it so?

Listening to the EP Waving Lines, it's all your original songs. Have you had thoughts on playing or even recording a cover? (Nirvana maybe?)

Has there been any overly strange people at your concerts and if so what was the weirdest thing they done?

Is it really all Sex, Drugs and Rock ‘n’ Roll?

Equipment, Instruments, Fans…

Luke Tomkins - Vocals/Guitar
Euan James-Richards - Bass
Joey Flanagan - Drums
Hometown: Bromley UK
Previous bands: Alien Nation - Luke and Joey only.
Jettatura (Euan joined the band at the start of the formation of Vendorbelly.

"Taller than your last bar order; wider than the Panama Canal. Three musicians from Bromley creating fuzzy, shoe-gazey metallic sounds that will get you tapping your feet and foreheads on the ground. Loud isn't loud enough, go louder."

Shortly before forming, the members were in the group Jettatura whose one and only gig was in a garden supporting Funeral For A Friend. Vendorbelly hope to best this effort and have FFAF support them. 2012 was the year Vendorbelly came into it's own. Playing a whole slew of shows across London and the surrounding areas with trailblazers such as Bloodshed, this all culminated in their first festival appearance at Danson Park's annual Danson Festival, Bexleyheath. After Danson, the band took a short break from playing shows in order to write and recover (and work outside of the band) but are back and ready to fuzz up unsuspecting ears.

Formed in October 2011 in the wake of their previous band, Luke Tomkins, Joey Flanagan and Euan James-Richards  set about creating heavier music than they were before. The name 'Vendorbelly' came from an arbitrary google search that resulted in a page seeking belly dancers in the small town of Vendor, Arkansas, USA. Initially writing dark punk/metal based music to quell their thirst for aggression, the band spent the majority of 2012 playing shows across London and the south east. Vendorbelly takes influence from many top players in the alternative genre, including Melvins, My Bloody Valentine, Deerhoof and Mudhoney. The band is currently going through a transitional phase from their aggressive roots to a more song-based structure. Their newest EP, 'Waving Lines', is the first step on this road.

Currently recording a music video for the song Cairo by Andy Brack being filmed at dungeness beach.

Sludge Rock/Stoner Metal. This genre is a mixture of multiple types of music including Doom Metal, Hard Rock Punk, Psychedelic Rock, Blues Rock and traditional Heavy Metal. Started in the 1990's the genre has seen many bands, like the Californian band Kyuss and Seattle's own Soundgarden, come out and been produced showing the world that this music exists and is an interesting experimental way of creating music. This is what my documentary will be based on showing the audience of today that this music is still around and something that people in the mainstream music industry are unaware of.

The type of questions I will be proposing to the band will hopefully show a new audience how this music is created/promoted by the band and what are their feelings towards their music in this day in age of "The hit's" charts.

Questions:
As we know in wrestling we have faces and heels, good guys and bad guys. What was it that made you choose to become a heel and have you always been a heel?
James Dahmer, an interesting name, Is there any reason in particular why you chose that as your stage name?
Your feud with the Bhangler Knights, How did that come around?
What do you think makes a good entrance and how do you decide on your song for your titantron?
Your finishing move, the sit down powerbomb,  what made you want to choose that as a finisher and was there any inspiration from any other wrestlers who also use a form of powerbomb?

(This is research that i have found for an interview with the wrestler James Davis, however i have chosen to change my interview idea as i was unable to book a time with him to film the interview due to busy schedules. I have now chosen to film my interview on the band Vendorbelly.)
